Can using the 8 phases of the moon intentionally change the quality of your life? Yes! It absolutely can, and I’m going to crack open this door for you.

For many years that I’ve been exploring the moon’s influence. It started when I was teaching yoga and I noticed that during new moons when I’d teach slow, introspective classes with long holds that students would drop in so deeply, and say, “I felt so exhausted before class- wow I really need that moment to slow down.” I thought that was interesting, so I started experimenting with different class styles based off the lunar cycle, curious as to if it would meet student’s needs in a new way- and it did!

From there, I started looking at other ways that I could plan according to the moon’s phases: things like scheduling meetings, planning massages, meeting with friends vs quiet nights alone, when to manifest, when to grind, and when to focus efforts on making changes or solving problems. Over the years I’ve had breakthroughs with this, and now I spend a large portion of my time helping others learn how to use astrology, including the lunar phases, to transform the way they take care of themselves and approach life.

Here’s the thing- working with the lunar cycle is a self care practice, and one that will continue to deepen for you over time. So while this topic goes deep and I’ve got a lot of tools to help you should you want to go there, for now I’m going to keep it really simple:

NEW MOON

A dark sky makes space for inner work, time to create new dreams. Treat this like a blank canvas that you get to create the picture on, and plant the seeds for what’s to come.

WAXING CRESCENT MOON

Energy builds during this phase, you’re inspired by new ideas, it’s time to put your dreams into small, actionable items. Be open to your intuition and stay flexible.

FIRST QUARTER MOON

Sun & Moon Square off, sometimes tension and resistance comes up. Our job is to find balance. Note the areas of your life where things aren’t working as well as you’d like.

WAXING GIBBOUS

You’re moving towards more light, and more clarity. Continue to tune inward, trusting your intuition, and also remembering sometimes this is the place where new info is received.

FULL MOON

Max light = Max emotions. The sun & moon are in opposite signs here, both desiring your attention. Be open to yourself & your revelations. See the big picture.

WANING GIBBOUS MOON

We begin to lose light, and it’s a sign to let go and give back. Everything is working out for your highest good. Giving is best during this moon phase. Share with others: ideas, things, energy.

LAST QUARTER MOON

Another square, and another reminder for balance. At this point in the cycle it’s about what we need to release to find balance, continuing our practice of letting go.

WANING CRESCENT MOON

Surrender and rest become key components here, and giving yourself the space you need and deserve: mentally, emotionally, and/or physically. You may embrace cleansing/purging.

Now, go figure out what phase the moon is in right now, and start shifting small things in your life to line up with the energy of the phase. I highly recommend using a personal journal to take note of how YOU experience this, and remember it will likely change from cycle to cycle but you will start to notice a pattern.
